Music Therapy

Music therapy also known as sound healing is a particular process where "sound" is employed in healing diseases.

Listening to the music provides wonderful effect to alleviate stress. Music is a significant mood changer and reliever of stress, working on many levels at the same time. Music of choice has always been a great healer. Thus music has frequently been used as the therapeutic agent from the ancient times. Music produces the effect of Yoga through the generation of sonorous sound, which acts upon human organism to awaken and develop the proper function of various organ systems so that it ultimately leads to self-realization. The music therapy was common in ancient India as self-realization was the ultimate goal of Hindu Philosophy and religion. The key of Indian classical music is melody. Various Ragas have been found to be very effective in curing many diseases. Though it should always be remembered that every body have their different taste of music. So listening forcefully of a relaxing music, which the patient does not like, might enhance taste instead of alleviating it.

Music helps in the treatment of the diseases in the following way-

  • Music acts as a sedative and thereby can replace the use of tranquillizers or at least can reduce the dosage of tranquillizers.

  • Music increases the metabolic activities within the human body. It accelerates the rate of respiration, increases the hormonal secretion, affects the muscular activities and thereby affects the total Central Nervous System and Circulatory System of the listener of the music.

  • Many experts suggest that it is the rhythm of the music or the beats that has the calming effect on the nervous system without making the person very conscious about it. The commonest example is baby in the womb of mother is influenced by the heartbeat of mother. Even at the later stage of life a person responds to the soothing music, which perhaps associate with the safe, relaxed and protected environment of Mother`s womb. After much research therefore music has made its presence felt as an alternative form of treatment hence the very concept of music therapy is wide and engaging. The automatic process of music therapy therefore does a deep central healing while setting the right combination of sounds.

Music therapy is all about music therefore. An extensive research reveals that any given piece of music system produce many physiological response. But many of the music have bad effect on health like hard rock, heavy metal etc. This produces unusual EEG reports. Any live performance of music, even in a moderately louder volume has a very beneficial effect. Whenever the proper sound is experienced synchronization occurs between left and right hemisphere of brain. The EEG pattern changes to normal voltage spiking pattern to smooth sinusoidal waveform and the usual voltage difference equalizes. The entire human energetic level is extremely influenced by sounds and the physical body as well as the `Chakra` system responds specifically to certain tones and frequencies. Even the effect of music occurs especially when one is playing or creating music by oneself.

Music therapy in India has a rich history of its own. The musicologists of India observed the ever engaging and invincible quality of music or sound. Music therapy in India hence stands as the arrangement of sound in definite order to raise varied feelings. These diverse feelings further influence the particular DNA and also excite the hormones. Diseases like Stress, sleeplessness, amnesia, autism etc can actually be healed with this magical touch of Music therapy.

The first symptom of stress fighting while one hears a tune is an increase in deep breathing as well as acceleration in serotonin hormone production. Even during the dental treatment music is proven to reduce pain. When one works if music plays in the background it definitely reduces stress. Music is found to reduce the heart rates and promote higher body temperature, which is an indication of the onset of relaxation. The relaxation therapy is more effective when it works in combination of music therapy.

To relieve stress one can take a twenty-minute `Sound bath`. One must lie in the couch or floor in a comfortable position with the liking music playing in a sound system. One can even wear headphones to concentrate more on the music. The focus should be on breath and concentration should be given on the gaps of the tones. The music should be allowed to wash over the body and mind so that it can bring complete relaxation. A slow rhythmic music is always much effective than a faster one. Indian classical ragas are proved to be very effective. But if one wants to boost him/her up after a day`s fatigue he/she must listen to some faster music instead of a calm one. One can also chose a familiar music like childhood song or good oldies for the music therapy and relaxation. Listening to natural music like waves of sea or falling of raindrops is also helpful in relieving stress.

A single music is not good for everyone. Different people have different taste of music and it is important to like the music to get its full beneficial effect. There are some common guidelines to maximize the effectiveness of the music.

The modern days music therapy is not fully developed yet. It needs further research and the therapeutic system must be guided by the experts.

    Why they are named so??????

Few interesting facts that we may not be aware of.............Plz have a look...........

    1.Yahoo!

The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book Gulliver's Travels. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.

    2. Xerox

The Greek root "xer" means dry. The inventor, Chestor Carlson, named his product Xerox as it was dry copying, markedly different from the then prevailing wet copying.

    3. Sun Microsystems

Founded by four Stanford University buddies, Sun is the acronym for Stanford University Network.

    4. Sony

From the Latin word 'sonus' meaning sound, and 'sonny' a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.

    5. SAP

"Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing", formed by four ex-IBM employees who used to work in the 'Systems/Applications/Projects' group of IBM.

    6. Red Hat

Company founder Marc Ewing was given the Cornell lacrosse team cap (with red and white stripes) while at college by his grandfather. He lost it and had to search for it desperately. The manual of the beta version of Red Hat Linux had an appeal to readers to return his Red Hat if found by anyone!

    7. Oracle

Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The code name for the project was called Oracle (the CIA saw this as the system to give answers to all questions or something such).

    8. Motorola

Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called Victrola.

    9. Microsoft

It was coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the '-' was removed later on.

    10. Lotus

Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from the lotus position or 'padmasana.' Kapor used to be a teacher of Transcendental Meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

    11. Intel

Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company 'Moore Noyce' but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain, so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

    12. Hewlett-Packard

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

    13. Hotmail

Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing email via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for Hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective upper casings.

    14. Google

The name started as a jockey boast about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders - Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google

    15. Cisco

The name is not an acronym but an abbreviation of San Francisco. The company's logo reflects its San Francisco name heritage. It represents a stylized Golden Gate Bridge.

    16. Apple Computers

Favourite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 o'clock.

    17. Apache

It got its name because its founders got started by applying patches to code written for NCSA's httpd daemon. The result was 'A PAtCHy' server - thus, the name Apache.

    18. Adobe

The name came from the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the house of founder John Warnock.

    Magnet Therapy

A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. There is a simple way to detect a magnetic field by scattering iron filings and observe their pattern. Magnetism is a common term in the fields of physics, industry and commerce.

A `hard` or `permanent` magnet is one that stays magnetized and a `soft` or `impermanent` magnet is one that loses its memory of previous magnetizations. The remarkable effects of magnet on certain metals as well as on living organisms are known for centuries. Magnet is also highly beneficial with its clinical impact on human ailments, which is a comparatively recent development and is not yet widely known. The magnet is known by various names in different languages. The original iron-ore, which possessed the attracting power and was natural magnet, was named `Magnetite`. It was also known as `loadstone` or `lodestone`. The word loadstone was derived from the word `load` used in old English, which among other things, meant course, journey, etc., conveying the idea of direction. The term `Magnetis` or `Magnesetos` (meaning stone) was used by the Greeks for magnet and the French known it by the name `Aimant` (meaning magnet and loving).

In Hindi magnet is known as `Chumbak` (kissing stone) and in Urdu and Persian it is called `Maqnatees`. The Chinese call it by the term `Chu Shr` (meaning loving stone). According to the gemologists, the magnet is considered to be one of the several precious gems, which are advised to be worn for various purposes. It is worn mainly for maintenance of health, for peace of mind and for general prosperity. Hence, it is also called a `gem`.

The celebrities wear magnets for the purpose of maintaining vigorous health and to stop ageing of their bodies. It is said that Cleopatra, the extremely beautiful daughter of the king of Egypt, Ptolemy Aulete used to wear a magnet on her forehead to maintain her beauty.

Magnet was also used as a good luck charm and also to get relief from headaches. Common people believe in the divine force of the magnet. As per one of the philosopher-scientist `a magnet has a soul because it moved iron`. It seems that a magnet cannot have life, yet the intelligence of its poles to recognize friendship or hatred of the poles of another magnet and to attract or repel it accordingly, remains unexplained even today.

The medical use of magnet in the recovery of certain diseases is proved now. It has the power of drawing pain out of the body, relieving stiffness of joints and muscles and of removing toothache immediately. The long time use of magnet reduces weight in obesity, increases height of short-statured boys and girls and also increases intelligence and wisdom. The magnet also corrects blood pressure and provides immunity against certain diseases of human body by increasing the vitalising secretions.

Rice fields in Japan - Stunning

Stunning crop art has sprung up across rice fields in Japan . But this is no alien creation - the designs have been cleverly planted.
Farmers creating the huge displays use no ink or dye. Instead, different colors of rice plants have been precisely and strategically arranged and grown in the paddy fields.

As summer progresses and the plants shoot up, the detailed artwork begins to emerge.

A Sengoku warrior on horseback has been created from hundreds of thousands of rice plants, the colors created by using different varieties, in Inakadate in Japan

The largest and finest work is grown in the Aomori village of Inakadate , 600 miles north of Toyko, where the tradition began in 1993.

The village has now earned a reputation for its agricultural artistry and this year the enormous pictures of Napoleon and a Sengoku-period warrior, both on horseback, are visible in a pair of fields adjacent to the town hall.

More than 150,000 visitors come to Inakadate, where just 8,700 people live, every summer to see the extraordinary murals.

Each year hundreds of volunteers and villagers plant four different varieties of rice in late May across huge swathes of paddy fields.

Napoleon on horseback can be seen from the skies, created by precision planting and months of planning between villagers and farmers in Inkadate

Fictional warrior Naoe Kanetsugu and his wife Osen appear in fields in the town of Yonezawa , Japan

And over the past few years, other villages have joined in with the plant designs.

Another famous rice paddy art venue is in the town of Yonezawa in the Yamagata prefecture.

This year's design shows the fictional 16th-century samurai warrior Naoe Kanetsugu and his wife, Osen, whose lives feature in television series Tenchijin.

Various artwork has popped up in other rice-farming areas of Japan this year, including designs of deer dancers.

Smaller works of crop art can be seen in other rice-farming areas of Japan such as this image of Doraemon and deer dancers

The farmers create the murals by planting little purple and yellow-leafed kodaimai rice along with their local green-leafed tsugaru roman variety to create the coloured patterns between planting and harvesting in September.

The murals in Inakadate cover 15,000 square meters of paddy fields. From ground level, the designs are invisible, and viewers have to climb the mock castle tower of the village office to get a glimpse of the work.

Rice-paddy art was started there in 1993 as a local revitalization project, an idea that grew out of meetings of the village committee.

Closer to the image, the careful placement of thousands of rice plants in the paddy fields can be seen

The different varieties of rice plant grow alongside each other to create the masterpieces

In the first nine years, the village office workers and local farmers grew a simple design of Mount Iwaki every year.

But their ideas grew more complicated and attracted more attention. In 2005 agreements between landowners allowed the creation of enormous rice paddy art.

A year later, organizers used computers to precisely plot planting of the four differently colored rice varieties that bring the images to life.

10 Tips to speak Correct English

    1. Observe the mouth movements of those who speak English well and try to imitate them.
When you are watching television, observe the mouth movements of the speakers. Repeat what they are saying, while imitating the intonation and rhythm of their speech.

    2. Until you learn the correct intonation and rhythm of English, slow your speech down.
If you speak too quickly, and with the wrong intonation and rhythm, native speakers will have a hard time understanding you.
Don't worry about your listener getting impatient with your slow speech -- it is more important that everything you say be understood.

    3. Listen to the 'music' of English.
Do not use the 'music' of your native language when you speak English. Each language has its own way of 'singing'.

    4. Use the dictionary.
Try and familiarise yourself with the phonetic symbols of your dictionary. Look up the correct pronunciation of words that are hard for you to say.

    5. Prepare a list of frequently used words.
Make a list of frequently used words that you find difficult to pronounce and ask someone who speaks the language well to pronounce them for you.Record these words, listen to them and practice saying them. Listen and read at the same time.

    6. Buy books on tape.
Record yourself reading some sections of the book. Compare the sound of your English with that of the person reading the book on the tape.

    7. Pronounce the ending of each word.
Pay special attention to 'S' and 'ED' endings. This will help you strengthen the mouth muscles that you use when you speak English.

    8. Read aloud in English for 15-20 minutes every day.
Research has shown it takes about three months of daily practice to develop strong mouth muscles for speaking a new language.

    9. Record your own voice and listen for pronunciation mistakes.
Many people hate to hear the sound of their voice and avoid listening to themselves speak. However, this is a very important exercise because doing it will help you become conscious of the mistakes you are making.

    10. Be patient.
You can change the way you speak but it won't happen overnight. People often expect instant results and give up too soon. You can change the way you sound if you are willing to put some effort into it

    “The 20th Floor"

There were once 2 brothers who lived on the 80th floor of a tall building. On coming home one day, they realized to their dismay that the lifts were not working and that they have to climb the stairs home.

After struggling to the 20th level, panting and tired, they decided to abandon their bags and come back for them the next day. They left their bags then and climbed on............

When they have struggled to the 40th level by this time they had gone sufficiently mad and irritated. The younger brother started to grumble and both of them began to quarrel.

They continued to climb the flights of steps, quarrelling all the way to the 60th floor.

They then realized that they have only 20 levels more to climb and decided to stop quarrelling and continue climbing in peace. They silently climbed on and reached their home at long last. Each stood calmly before the door and waited for the other to open the door. And they realized that the key was in their bags which were left on the 20th floor.........

This story is a reflection on our life and times. All of us climb the tall building called career ...........some till all the 80 floors and some less. But do we know that the key to happiness is in the bag which has been left back on the 20th floor only. Know your dreams and follow it so that you will not live with regrets.

Inside each of us are powers so strong, treasures so rich, possibilities so endless, that to command them all to action would change the history of the world. So “Our lives are the reflection of our thoughts”

10 principles for peace of mind

    1. Do Not Interfere In Others Business Unless Asked.

Most of us create our own problems by interfering too often in others affairs. We do so because somehow we have convinced ourselves that our way is the best way, our logic is the perfect logic and those who do not conform to our thinking must be criticized and steered to the right direction, our direction. This thinking denies the existence of individuality and consequently the existence of God.. God has each one of us in a way. No two human beings can think or act in exactly the same way. All men or women act the way they do because God within them prompts them that way. Mind your own business and you will keep your peace.

    2. Forgive And Forget..

This is the most powerful aid to peace of mind. We often develop ill feelings inside our heart for the person who insults us or harms us. We nurture grievances. This in turn results in loss of sleep, development of stomach ulcers, and high blood pressure. This insult or injury was done once, but nourishing of grievance goes on forever by constantly remembering it. Get over this bad habit. Life is too short to waste in such trifles. Forgive, Forget, and march on. Love flourishes in giving and forgiving.

    3. Do Not Crave For Recognition.

This world is full of selfish people. They seldom praise anybody without selfish motives. They may praise you today because you are in power, but no sooner than you are powerless, they will forget your achievement and will start finding faults in you. Why do you wish to kill yourself in striving for their recognition? Their recognition is not worth the aggravation. Do your duties ethically and sincerely.

    4. Do Not Be Jealous.

We all have experienced how jealousy can disturb our peace of mind. You know that you harder than your colleagues in the office, but sometimes they get promotions; you do not. You a business several years ago, but you are not as successful as your neighbor whose business is only one old. There are several examples like these in everyday life. Should you be jealous? No. Remember everybodys life is shaped by his/her destiny, which has now become his/her reality. If you are destined to be rich, nothing in the world can stop you. If you are not so destined, no one can help you either. Nothing will be gained by blaming others for your misfortune. Jealousy will not get you anywhere; it will only take away your peace of mind.

    5. Change Yourself According To The Environment.

If you try to change the environment single-handedly, the chances are you will fail. Instead, change yourself to suit your environment. As you do this, even the environment, which has been unfriendly to you, will mysteriously change and seem congenial and harmonious.

    6. Endure What Cannot Be Cured.

This is the best way to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. Every day we face numerous inconveniences, ailments, irritations, and accidents that are beyond our control.. If we cannot control them or change them, we must learn to put up with these things. We must learn to endure them cheerfully. Believe in yourself and you will gain in terms of patience, inner strength and will power.

    7. Do Not Bite Off More Than You Can Chew.

This maxim needs to be remembered constantly. We often tend to take more responsibilities than we are capable of carrying out. This is done to satisfy our ego. Know your limitations. . Why take on additional loads that may create more worries? You cannot gain peace of mind by expanding your external activities. Reduce your material engagements and spend in prayer, introspection and meditation. This will reduce those thoughts in your mind that you restless. Uncluttered mind will produce greater peace of mind.

    8. Meditate Regularly.

Meditation calms the mind and gets rid of disturbing thoughts. This is the highest state of peace of mind. Try and it yourself. If you meditate earnestly for half an hour everyday, your mind will tend to become peaceful during the remaining twenty-three and half-hours. Your mind will not be easily disturbed as it was before. You would benefit by gradually increasing the period of daily meditation. You may think that this will interfere with your daily work. On the contrary, this will increase your efficiency and you will be able to produce better results in less time

    9. Never Leave The Mind Vacant.

An empty mind is the devil’s workshop. All evil actions start in the vacant mind. Keep your mind occupied in something positive, something worthwhile. Actively follow a hobby. Do something that holds your interest. You must decide what you value more: money or peace of mind. Your hobby, like social work or religious work, may not always earn you more money, but you will have a sense of fulfillment and achievement. Even when you are resting physically, occupy yourself in healthy reading or mental chanting of God’s name.

    10. Do Not Procrastinate And Never Regret.

Do not waste time in protracted wondering Should I or shouldn't I? Days, weeks, months, and years may be wasted in that futile mental debating. You can never plan enough because you can never anticipate all future happenings. Value your time and do the things that need to be done. It does not matter if you fail the first time. You can learn from your mistakes and succeed the next time. Sitting back and worrying will lead to nothing. Learn from your mistakes, but do not brood over the past. DO NOT REGRET.. Whatever happened was destined to happen only that way. Why cry over spilt milk?

    Indian Naturopathy

Naturopathy as an age old healing method was very much in practice in India when drugs and technology were not much in vogue. Nature provided all the elements, within the range of the natural foods, which man needed in the way of nutrient and medicine. Thus, the healing power by naturopathy was nothing new to the Indian tradition. In Indian homes, home remedies have always come before the even doctor`s medicines. This clearly portrays the sheer importance of naturopathy as a trustworthy alternative treatment procedure in ancient India. With passing time, Indian naturopathy gained contour as one of the important health care systems in India, famed for its side effect less treatment.

Indian NaturopathyThe root of naturopathy as a treatment process is steeped in the antiquities. The origin of Naturopathy could be traced right to Vedic period wherein Dietary Discipline (Pathya & Ahara) and the Principles of Health (Swastha Vurtha) described in Ayurveda have branched out and developed in the form of today`s Naturopathy. Vedic tradition believed that it is nature, which cures, not the physician and the Vedic culture of ancient India highlighted the use of natures foremost healing agents, water, air, earth and sun which indeed forms the basic crux of naturopathy.

The entire philosophy of naturopathy is thus based upon three basic principles. The first principle of naturopathy believes that all diseases are due to the accumulation of toxins and waste materials in the human body. Thus the therapeutic principle of naturopathy in this case refers to the application of various methods to clear the human system from these toxins and accumulated wastes.

The second principle of naturopathy is again further elaboration of the first principle. According to the second principle when toxins accumulate in the body, the various organs of the body gets over exercised while clearing the toxin off the body. It is when this harmony of internal body organ is disturbed then germs multiply and cause disease. Application of medicine, high dose drugs and vaccines to suppress the symptom of the diseases further aggravates the disease while subduing the symptoms.

The third principle of naturopathy is somewhat a solution of the problems that the first and second principle states. According to the third principle of naturopathy, the human body is equipped with a unique self-healing mechanism, which brings back the body to normal conditions of health, if proper natural methods are used to assist the system to function properly.

Water TherapyThe therapeutic practice of naturopathy is based on the principle of naturopathy. Naturopathy believes that the body possesses an inherent ability to "heal thyself"; all the healing powers are within one`s body, hence people actually fall ill only when they go against nature. The therapeutic use of naturopathy or the healing power of nature therefore corroborates nearly all the healing techniques in alternative medicine. The basic healing theory of naturopathy is based upon the fact that human being is born healthy and can stay healthy by living in accordance with the laws of nature. To support healthy living and indeed to say no to diseases, Indian naturopathy has described certain nature`s way; thus, thorough rest, fasting, water therapy, mud therapy, aromatherapy, message therapy, sleep therapy, acupressure, etc an ailing body can purify and recoup itself

Trusted for its side effect less treatment naturopathy as a health care system has gained importance. The naturopathic centres as the therapeutic centres have mushroomed in large numbers to provide naturopathic treatment especially in the metropolitan cities in India. Most of them follow a similar routine for treating the common ailments. Whether it is the treatment that suits the more spiritually inclined, with yoga and meditation forming an important part of the day`s routine, or more modern equipment like saunas and whirlpool baths that take one`s fancy, one can choose from many naturopathy centers in India to restore health.

It's Better to Make Mistakes Than To Be a Perfectionist

It's Better to Make Mistakes Than To Be a Perfectionist

Some people waste their lives trying to avoid making mistakes, but cripple their careers since perfection isn't attainable. They ultimately make fewer mistakes but accomplish less because they waste so much time trying to make things perfect. Time is money in business. Doing a good job today is more profitable than doing a great job tomorrow.

Rock star Jon Bon Jovi's career might have ended before it started had he not understood this principle. He was only 21 when he won a contest with a radio station to record his first song in 1983. He quickly formed a band and released a debut album that went gold the following year. Suddenly they were opening a concert for ZZ Top at Madison Square Garden. They were rushed to record a second album and strike while the iron was hot. It was released in 1985 to poor reviews. Jon was unhappy with the album and wanted to do better, but timing was critical. The band moved past this bump in the road and released a better written and produced third album in 1986. Jon still wasn't happy with the album because he didn't think one particular song was good enough to be included. Fortunately for him, he listened to the people who knew the business side of music. That song was “You Give Love a Bad Name. It became one of the band's most well-known singles and helped send the album straight to number one. This launched them into super stardom and they went on to sell more than 100 million albums. Had they waited until the second album was perfect, they might have lost the support of their record label before they got to the third.

This is what happened to rock legend Tom Scholz. He's often referred to as the smartest man in the history of rock and roll. He holds a masters degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and is listed as an inventor on 34 U.S. patents. The 1976 debut album by his band Boston sold over 16 million copies and remains the biggest selling debut album in history. It's also considered one of the best-produced albums in rock history. Scholz played every instrument on every song and produced the album himself. He's brilliant and talented. He's also a consummate perfectionist who took eight years to finish the third album. CBS/Epic Records got tired of waiting for it, sued him for breach of contract, and dropped Boston from their label.

It's okay to have high standards as long as they're realistic. It's not okay to procrastinate until everything is exactly the way you want it to be. Your employer doesn't have time to wait around until you get things perfect even if you are a genius inventor or legendary rock star. Deadlines must be kept and payroll must be met. An electrical engineer who attended my management seminar in Orlando once told me that he has to constantly remind the engineers he supervises that sometimes 90 percent is good enough.

Highly valued employees don't necessarily make fewer mistakes than run of the mill employees. In fact, they often make more mistakes because the number of mistakes increases as productivity increases. They just know the right way to do it. Making mistakes is okay as long as:

    1. They âre reasonable mistakes to make.
    2. You catch your own mistakes.
    3. You correct your own mistakes.
    4. You accept responsibility.
    5. You don't blame others.
    6. You don't make excuses.
    7. You don't hide your mistakes from your boss.
    8. You learn from your mistakes.
    9. You don't repeat the same mistakes.
    10. You apologize when it's appropriate.

Mistakes to avoid during a job search

No matter how skilled or experienced you are, a few easy to make mistakes can always get in your way. For instance, a single typo in your resume and you are gone. Just because of this small error the interviewer may question your professionalism. That one wrong move can cancel out all the right moves you have made. So, here is a list of common job search mistakes that you should definitely avoid making:

Not disclosing that you are looking out for a job:
If no one knows you are looking out for a new job, what is the point? May be you are just extending your job search process. Talking with your family, friends and acquaintances is one of the best ways to identify new professional contacts and learn about job openings, even those that aren’t advertised. Also there are several professional networking websites available today that can land you a good job. Remember, the larger your network, the more job openings you will hear about.

Sending your resume everywhere and flooding the market with an untargeted resume:
Online job sites have definitely made it easy for applicants to apply for a position with just a simple click of the mouse. But that doesn’t mean you just blindly go on posting your resume to every company you come across. Your skills and experience need to match with their requirements of the position. So, we suggest you go through their requirements first, do a bit of research on the firm and then if the job profile interests you, apply for the post with your resume.

    Not sending a cover letter:
Not including a cover letter with your resume is the biggest mistake one can make. Whether you are applying for a job online or personally visiting the firm, make sure you include a cover letter or you will lose an opportunity to market your skills. A cover letter allows you to explain in detail the specific ways in which your expertise can benefit the firm.

Check for spelling or grammatical mistakes:
See to that there are no spelling or grammatical errors in your resume and cover letter. Let us tell you that it takes just one or two typographical errors for an interviewer to reject a candidate. So, make sure all of your written communications with the interviewer or a potential employer, including e-mails and thank you notes, are error free. To avoid such mistakes, consider asking a colleague who is your best friend at work or your ex-boss you had good relations with to review your job search materials before submitting.

Searching for a job during working hours at office: If you are currently employed and you keep surfing the web for job openings at work, be careful. Doing so can quickly land you in trouble with the present employer. Do not forget that some companies monitor their employees’ web use and, if your boss discovers that you are using work hours to search for a new job, your job is at risk. Any activity related to your job search, including scheduling interviews and completing application materials, should be completed after work or from home if you have a PC at your place.

Not communicating to follow up with hiring managers:
If you have applied for a job and have not heard back, it is foolish to assume the position has been filled or you are not right fit for the job. Your resume may simply have gotten lost in the flood of other applications. In this case we suggest you contact the interviewer by e-mail or a phone call within two weeks of submitting a resume.

    ~A Perfect Mistake~

    ~A Perfect Mistake~

Mother's father worked as a carpenter. On this particular day, he was building some crates for the clothes his church was sending to some orphanage in China. On his way home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone. When he mentally replayed his earlier actions, he realized what happened; the glasses had slipped out of his pocket unnoticed and fallen into one of the crates, which he had nailed shut. His brand new glasses were heading for China!

The Great Depression was at its height and Grandpa had six children. He had spent $20 for those glasses that very morning. He was upset by the thought of having to buy another pair. Its not fair, he told God as he drove home in frustration. I've been very faithful in giving of my time and money to your work, and now this.

Several months later, the director of the orphanage was on furlough in the United States. He wanted to visit all the churches that supported him in China, so he came to speak one Sunday at my grandfather's small church in Chicago. The missionary began by thanking the people for their faithfulness in supporting the orphanage. But most of all,he said, I must thank you for the glasses you sent last year. You see, the Communists had just swept through the orphanage, destroying everything, including my glasses. I was desperate. Even if I had the money, there was simply no way of replacing those glasses.
Along with not being able to see well, I experienced headaches every day, so my coworkers and I were much in prayer about this. Then your crates arrived. When my staff removed the covers, they found a pair of glasses lying on top.

The missionary paused long enough to let his words sink in. Then, still gripped with the wonder of it all, he continued, "Folks, when I tried on the glasses, it was as though they had been custom-made just for me! I want to thank you for being a part of that."
The people listened, happy for the miraculous glasses. But the missionary surely must have confused their church with another, they thought. There were no glasses on their list of items to be sent overseas. But sitting quietly in the back, with tears streaming down his face, an ordinary carpenter realized the Master Carpenter had used him in an extraordinary way.
